Hulman Links Golf Club, Indiana, USA
Hulman Links is one of two 18 hole public courses owned by the City of Terre Haute, Indiana. It was first opened to the public in 1978 and over the years has hosted two Indiana Open PGA tournaments and the NCAA Division III National Championships. At par 72 and over 7,000 yards from the back tees the course is challenging and has been ranked as high as 5th for 'affordable quality' by leading golf magazine, Golf Digest. However, as highly regarded, popular and busy as the course was, it faced the same commercial challenges as all other courses, and undertook an upgrading programme in order to improve standards and operational efficiency.
Roger Jones Golf Design was contracted to carry out a full course review and to detail proposed changes that would meet the brief of 'improving standards and operational efficiency.
The first and most significant of these was a redesign and remodelling of all bunkers. This was closely followed by a woodland management programme, reshaping of some fairways, and works to the existing lakes to aid the irrigation system as well as enhance course aethsetics.
